Medieval Pottery Kiln

I have done some pit firing, but wanted to do a more controlled and oxidizizing firing, mainly for making encaustic tiles. After doing some research, I came up with a design that is mostly period, not too difficult, and about the right size - large enough to be fairly efficient but small enough that I don't need to make a huge number of pots to fill it. The kiln is constructed of cob (see the Cob Page for more info about cob) built around some simple wood and cardboard forms. I decided that a good size would be to have a firing chamber about 2 feet by 2 feet, and I scaled the other dimensions to fit this firing chamber.
